SoftWash ROOF CLEANING

.
What is that on my roof? .
We’ve heard plenty of speculation as to the cause of roof stains. These include
everything from tar running from shingles, tree droppings, even dumped jet fuel.
The question should really be...

What is that growing on my roof?
All of that ugly staining is actually organic growth on your roof. In New Jersey
we have 3 main culprits; they are algae, lichen, and moss. Virtually all roof
stains are organic matter in various stages of growth and decay.

The black roof streaks you see are actually an algae, called Gloeocapsa
Magma. Its spores are airborne and lie dormant until they land on a hospitable
environment with moisture and a food source. The food source is provided by
your roof itself. The roofing manufacturers reformulated asphalt shingles in the
late 1980s, removing some asphalt and replacing it with crushed limestone.
The limestone is the food source for the algae.

In most cases a north or west facing roof, or one where trees block the sun,
provides a few extra hours of morning dew, or delays the evaporation of rain.
This provides the ideal moist environment for algae growth. Lichen is a fungus
and appears as white dots that look like barnacles and range in size. The moss
appears as a green fuzzy mass.
.
The Garden State Roof Cleaning difference:
  • How we clean your roof:
We apply a cleaning solution that contains an algaecide, fungicide, a mild
soap, and a biostat with the equivalent of garden hose pressure, via our
exclusive SoftWash method. When we’ve allowed sufficient time for these
cleaners to work, we rinse the roof with plain water with the same garden
hose pressure. The algaecide and fungicide eliminate the organic growth,
as the soap cleans any other environmental staining. Finally the biostat
adheres to the shingle at a microscopic level and inhibits future growth.

.
• Our roof cleaning is SAFE for your roof.
We combine our SoftWash process with the recommended methodology
of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association for stain removal. Our
process and method ensure no loss of shingle granule, or degradation of
shingle life.

.
..........WE NEVER, EVER, USE PRESSURE WASHERS
.............................TO CLEAN YOUR ROOF!

.
• It’s also SAFE for your landscape and pets!
We take every precaution with your landscape to ensure it is safe. Pets
should remain indoors until our work is complete, but once our cleaning
solution dries, it becomes inert, and poses no danger to pets or plants.
.
• We offer a 1 YEAR WARRANTY.
If there is any organic growth within 1 year on an area we cleaned, we will
return and clean the area free of charge. At the end of the one year period
we can do a maintenance treatment that will extend the warranty for an
additional year. The cost of a maintenance treatment is generally about
1/3 or less than the cost of a complete roof cleaning.
